Holiday like a president: the attractive home is on the market for a $10.5 million (£6.5 million)

How wonderful to be leader of a country where wealth is not a dirty word.

When British prime ministers go on holiday, they tend to play it safe, wary of being seen living high on the hog while voters feel the pinch. Remember those pictures of David Cameron on a beach in Cornwall, changing into his swimming trunks under a towel?

Tony Blair was notoriously partial to multimillion-pound villas in Tuscany and Barbados. But most recent incumbents of Downing Street have taken their cue from Harold Wilson in the Sixties. He cemented his reputation as a man of the people by taking his summer holidays in the Scilly Isles.

In America, the rules of the game are very different. What is the point of being President if you cannot flash your cash from time to time?

There is hardly a voter from Seattle to Miami who would bridle at the fact that one of the homes President Obama rents for holidays in Hawaii has just come on the market for a $10.5 million (£6.5 million). Or that it costs more than $3,200 (£2,000) to rent the home for a single night. See full article here  (courtesy of Telegraph)
